POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
STUDENT ACCESS TO THE
LIBRARY
All students entering the library before or after school must
print their name and arrival time in the sign-in book at the
circulation desk. Students coming to the library during the school
day with a hall pass or from study hall must print their name, arrival
time, teacher to whose class they are assigned that period, and
departure time if they leave before the bell rings.
Before and after school day:
The library is open for 30 minutes before the school day begins
and for 30 minutes after the end of the school day. Students are
welcome to visit the library during that time.
From study hall:
Students may spend one study hall period per day in the library.
In order for a student to use the library during study hall, they
must follow these procedures:
- Come to the library
before the 7:40 a.m. bell, or the previous day, and request to
be signed up to go to the library instead of to study hall on
that day
- Report directly to the
library instead of to study hall
- Be prompt. A student
arriving after the bell rings will lose their library
privileges for that day and must return to study hall.
- Print name in sign-in
notebook at the circulation desk in the library
- Stay in the library
for the entire period. No passes will be issued from the
library back to study hall.

Library
staff will let the study hall teacher know who has arrived in the
library each hour. The study hall teacher will keep attendance.
From the classroom:
Teachers are welcome to send individual students to the library
with a hall pass. An explanation of the purpose of the visit should
be written on the pass or conveyed to the librarian through a phone
call. Unless otherwise requested by the teacher, the student will be
expected to remain in the library until the end of the class period.
If a teacher wants more than one student to visit the library at the
same time, the teacher should call the librarian to be sure that the
library can accommodate those students at that time.
Classes in the Library
- Teachers are
encouraged to hold classes in the library to use library
materials
- Library reservation
requests should be made directly with the librarian
- The librarian will
assist teacher in preparing students for research
- With prior notice,
specific materials can be made available for assignments
- When an assignment
involves substantial computer use, class should be scheduled in
one of the computer labs

AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT
Videotapes and DVDs are available for teachers to borrow as
needed. They are shelved in a room next to the Teacher Resource Room
and are arranged in Dewey Decimal System order.
The videos/DVDs are a part of our library's collection so they can
be located in the card catalog that may be accessed through the
"Library Search" icon on the desktop of computers here at
LCHS. All videos/DVDs must be checked out at the circulation desk.
Teachers may reserve audiovisual equipment by e-mailing the
library assistant at least three days in advance of the date needed.
Unless notified otherwise, the equipment will be available for
teacher to pick up on the day needed.
Transparency sheets are provided for teachers by the library.
Teachers may make transparencies on the photocopier in the Teacher
Resource Room. Only the blank transparencies provided by the library
should be used in the photocopier.
Laminating is done for teachers each Wednesday afternoon.
Materials to laminate should be labeled with teacher's name and room
number and left on the table by the laminator.
The photocopier and Risographs located in the Teacher Resource
Room, are maintained by library staff. The Risographs are designed to
reproduce multiple copies of plain text. They should be used for
making at least 20 copies or more of an original sheet of plain text.
The photocopy machine may be used for 1 to 100 copies of an
original document. This is especially useful when collating and
stapling is needed.
Library staff should be notified when there are any problems with
the Teacher Resource Room copy machines.
